Preserving Stories and Inspiring Creativity ThroughTextile Arts

Services

Janie Lynn Textiles provides unique healing art and arts in education services that combine textile art and story.  My clients are a diverse group of schools, organizations and individuals.  Here are some  comments regarding my programs:

“Storytelling in all forms  is crucial to the preservation of cultures. Ms. York's work provides such a beautiful, permanent venue on which her client's stories can come alive and be honored.”

Stephanie A. Carlson-Pruch                                                    Art Specialist Gomez Heritage School

“Janie’s willingness to talk openly about her own disability, reduced hearing, endeared her to our at ~ risk students who face disabilities of their own.”

Sandra S. Hanna                                            Teacher, Uta Halee Girls Village

“Resistance and frustration melted into a sense of calm, followed by excitement over what they had accomplished.  The inmates even cheered and clapped as each one of their peers would finish his piece.”

Marilyn Asher, Religious Coordinator                   Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility

The “Quilting Your Legacy” project at the Rose Blumkin Jewish Home has been the most unique and rewarding activity in my 17 years as Director of Activities. I have never seen Residents respond with such passion and commitment to this five session residency which has stimulated their artistic and creative side and also provided a sense of completion and discipline.  This project gave our Residents a chance to create a legacy for their families to treasure.

I can also help you with the following services:

Presentation or Key Note relating my experiences as a teaching artist in the areas of quilting, textile arts, creativity, personal storytelling, at risk or special needs populations.

Hands on workshops for your conference - I can design and facilitate meaningful workshops that bring the theme of your conference home for participants while also giving them a break from information overload!

Quilt repair and restyling for those much loved family quilts

Documentation and labeling of your family quilts - Family quilts that are not documented with at least the names of the maker and recipient are often cast aside when those who know the stories are gone.  Keep your quilts in the family by adding a label to the back.  These labels can be very simple or hold photo and story of the quiltmaker.  Let me help you assure that these quilts remain the family heirlooms they were intended to be.

Custom quilts for home or office - I can help you turn your mission statement, favorite quotes or family stories into unique pieces of art.  Contact me for your planning session.

Memory quilts - After my father and grandfather died, I healed my grief by making five memory quilts for my family using dad's shirts and grandpa's ties.  Let me help you preserve your memories with quilts, wall hangings or teddy bears using a combination of clothing/memorabilia from your loved one and new fabrics.  Below you'll find a photo of the shirt and tie quilt that continues to keep memories alive for me!
