Welcome to Janie Lynn Textiles! 

I am a quilter and textile artist working from my home studio in Ithaca, Nebraska.  I began my love of textiles as a child, dressing dolls, kitties, brothers ... anything that would stand for it!  My Grandmother York was the person who introduced me to quilting.  I remember sitting next to her in her large bay window watching as her needle flew in and out of the fabric as she quilted.  She would never agree to teach me, however, but planted the seed for what would grow into my life's work.  It was my sister-in-law Susan who helped me begin and with whom I made my first quilt in 1982.  From that day on quilting has been the constant in my life ... the one thing I can always turn to in times of both despair and celebration. 

I began quilting as many do using traditional patterns and settings but over time have shifted into something much different!  The majority of my work now combines textile arts, quilting and story used in school and community programming to promote education, healing and self awareness.  

On this ever evolving site you will hear about my work with domestic violence victims, teens who are at risk, adults with developmental disabilities and more.  Arts in education is a large part of the mission of Janie Lynn Textiles.  As I plan residencies with schools and community organizations I strive to make education both effective and fun through arts integration. On this site you will see the results of that effort. 

I've recently added a new page to this site ... Projects and Inspiration.  On this page you will see current projects along with ideas for capturing family stories.  Let me know how  these ideas work for you!  If you submit an idea that is posted on my web site or used in my newsletter you will receive a Story Quilt Kit as a thank you for that submission.  One submission each month will be selected for this gift.
